Everything You Need to Know About Kingdom Hearts IV

It’s been four long years since the reveal trailer for Kingdom Hearts IV, but during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct, we finally got a look at some gameplay for the upcoming sequel. Sora now looks older and is protecting citizens from the heartless in Kingdom Hearts IV, and it looks spectacular.

What platforms will Kingdom Hearts IV be released on?

Kingdom Hearts IV launches simultaneously on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store).

Is there a release date for Kingdom Hearts IV yet?

Unfortunately, no release date has been provided for Kingdom Hearts IV. As this current generation is speculated to finish by the end of 2027, however, it’s likely to be released within the next few years.

Where is Sora in Kingdom Hearts IV?

After the events of Kingdom Hearts III, Sora finds himself in Quadratum, a city within the realm of unreality. He is separated from his friends and disappears from the realm of light after using the power of waking too much. Kairi was struck down by Master Xehanort, and Sora eventually saved her despite several warnings. Riku, with the help of the Fairy Godmother, finds a way to get to the realm of unreality at the end of Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory.

What worlds will be in Kingdom Hearts IV?

So far, no worlds have been confirmed for Kingdom Hearts IV, other than Quadratum. However, there have been teases. The first came with the reveal trailer years ago, which showed what appears to be the planet of Endor from the Star Wars series with the footprint of an AT-ST. Additionally, the forest and the overall environment look very similar to the LucasFilm-created environment.

If you take a look at the June 2026 teaser trailer, Sora is wielding a keyblade that’s blue and red, resembling water and fire. This could be a keyblade inspired by two different movies, or an original keyblade altogether.

If it is from a different world, what it’s most likely pointing to is Moana. The keyblade represents the water and fire that create land; this is a big part of the Moana lore. The keyblade, after striking, creates earth from within the ground.

We do know there will be a Pixar world or character of some sort included. At the end of the teaser trailer, the copyright includes the beloved animation company.

The Jungle Book is a world that was scrapped from Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, so that is another potential place that Sora or Riku could visit.

“Sora will once again journey to various worlds, where new figures cross his path and new powers awaken in this next chapter,” said the press release on June 9, 2026.

When could we find out more about KH4?

The most likely time we’ll hear more about Kingdom Hearts 4 is during Disney’s upcoming convention D23. Square Enix is known to reveal trailers during that show. Additionally, it could appear during Gamescom or Tokyo Game Show in September.

While we wait for more news, check out what we know about the next entry in another beloved franchise, Spyro the Dragon.
